Freemen Of Hale Hotpot Supper
November 29th saw The Lord Mayor, Freemen of Hale and invited guests, attend a Hot Pot Supper and Lancashire Evening at the Childe Of Hale Public House. The evening started at 7.30pm onwards, as Freemen gathered in the upstairs meetings room in the Childe Of Hale.. Once everyone was seated and ready,,Tom Presscot called for order and announced the Lord Mayor,, Lord Mayor of Hale Mr Mal Sutton welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending the supper.. The hotpot supper, followed by apple pie and cream for desert, was served around 8.15pm preceded by saying grace.
The evening was to celebrate Lancashire day which fell this year on Tuesday 27th of November, during the morning of the 27th the Lord Mayor of Hale Village had appeared on the Tony Snell breakfast programme on BBC Radio Merseyside, talking in an interview, from the village by a link about the history of Lancashire day.
During the evening a raffle was held, for which the prize was a fine bottle of Whiskey, along with a talk from one of the invited guests about scubber diving. Computer laptops where passed around which displayed a picture show of photographs of locations and diving gear along with the guest speaker actually bringing most of his personal diving equipments for a demonstration on how it worked and functioned, a question and answer session also took place..
A competition between the Freemen was held to tell the best Lancashire related tale, connected with Hale, the prize was a mounted miniature of The Rocket to be held in the winners possession for a year. Those who submitted their tales where Bill Webb, Mal Sutton and Mr Tebay(spelling) from the Thatches,, once they had told their Lancashire related story,, voting slips where passed around and everyone voted for their best story. Once the votes had been counted,, it was announced that Bill Webb was the winner!
At the end of the evening the Freemens court took place, which included the beer tasters report from D*** W***??, The Bailiffs report and fines, followed by a jovial discussion who will be the real father Christmas, T** P******?? A toast to Queen Elizabeth and the Duke Of Lancaster took place during the evening.
I must thank Mr M Sutton for inviting me to the Hot Pot Supper at the Childe Of Hale, it was a real privilege to attend and to see the Freemen of Hale under court orders by Mr Presscot..
