Airbus Beluga Over Hale
August 23, 2009
It’s a common site over Hale Village,, but do you know where it is exactly going? While in the park on Friday 21st August an Airbus Beluga slowly made it’s way over the park heading towards Chester (that’s clue), it was going that slow,, how does it stay airborne?
The Beluga has a regular slot at Harwarden Airport transporting cargo form Harwarden, as far as I know it carries aircraft parts for the new Airbus A380. But, you ask,, why does it fly over Hale, well,, the runway 23(two three) approach at Harwarden Airport crosses the approach of the runway 27(two seven) at Liverpool Airport on either sides of the Mersey. To land on 2.3 at Harwarden the Beluga has to cross the flight path of 2.7 at Liverpool. Although it does cross,, the aircraft that land at Harwarden are about 1500 to 2000 feet above the Liverpool Approach-over Hale Village.
This maneuver on approach to Harwarden is overseen by the controllers in the Liverpool Airport control tower down Oglet Lane, while it is in the Liverpool zone/s. As it gets near to Harwarden it is then handed over to the approach at Harwarden tower!

Please take a minute to consider my views on two village issues.
1. Dogs in Hale Park
I understand that there is a move afoot to introduce a bylaw requiring dogs to be kept on a lead in Hale Park. This really is not a good idea. I can only presume that someone with little knowledge of dogs thinks that they will be protecting the public from dog attacks. This is a completely wrong assumption. Responsible dog owners take their dogs to the park to socialize with other dogs. Dogs which are allowed freedom to romp and play with their friends are happy dogs and happy dogs are safe dogs. Dogs which are always restrained are not happy dogs and it is the unhappy restrained dogs which can become dangerous. Please do not allow this stupid bylaw to be enforced.
2. Traffic restricting islands at either end of the village
The road restrictions at either end of the village are also stupid. Like the “Dogs on leads” issue. These have obviously been installed following some muddled thinking. Presumably someone thought that making motorists stop at the edge of the village would cause them to drive more slowly through it. In actual fact the opposite is true. The drivers of most through traffic, having been forced to queue to get through the restriction, drive faster through the village to make up for the lost time!
There are three other good reasons for not having these restrictions.
a. The road through Hale is an alternative to Speke Boulevard. Following a recent accident on the Boulevard, the queue to get through the western restriction stretched all the way from Hale to the airport.
b. The Hale road is one of only two routes for emergency vehicles to reach the airport. In the event of a major incident at John Lenin, the approach via Hale will be blocked at the restrictions.
c. The first time that fog coincides with a power failure, someone is going to wrap their car round the obstacles and die.
Please consider having these ill conceived monstrosities removed.

Hello John..
The current Bylaws, if that’s what they are, that are attached inside the metal display unit next to the old estate iron gate/turnstile in the park entrance on the left, they are dated as written- April 1975 to being imposed/agreed September 1975.
However, it is very hard indeed to actually read them, due to the amount of dirt and grime on the perspex glass/covering.
I could not see (through the dirt and grime) any bye law requesting dog owners to keep their animal on a lead, although, it does say in large white lettering, do not allow your dog to foul on the land/park.
I fine of £20 appears to be mentioned for whatever other bye law is broken. But who,, since it was put up,, has actually gone in to the parkland since 1975 and imposed fines on people?
Whether the current paper in the unit is out of date, I do not know, but it dates back to when the cow field was acquired for public use as park for the village, by those then in office on the Parish Council. The paper in the unit, from what I can see,, is related to Hale Parish Council?
It has been pointed out on more than 3 occasions in the last 12 months at village meetings, that the unit needs renovating and the byelwas updating! However, nothing has ever been done to remedy it?
Most people agree,, that I speak to,, that it is not the daytime activities that need to be monitored or dog owners picked on as an easy target, but the night time going’s on of drinking, Anti Social Behaviour and alleged drug use/dealing?
Coming from a family that has lived in the village for 70 years or more and a village lad for 40 years,, the now park as it is known,, seems to have attracted at night ,mischievous youths intent on doing their thing undercover of the night, this saddens me, when looking at the nice rural settings of a country landscape portrayed in family photographs of the then cow field it then was, with the nice red shale stoned track leading to Hale Hall.
We have to though, accept change,, good or bad?
Many thanks for you views and opinions John,, I am sure they have been taken on board by those reading the website.
